Finding an Unwanted Intruder in My Storage Unit

You always hope and pray something like this would never happen. Something like this might not even happen to most people. But today… it happened to me. Dramatic; I know. Is it necessary? Yes.

The day started off like any other. Got up, got some coffee and breakfast. It was right after New Years. I just took down all the decoration early and I already had them inside the car waiting to be dropped off to our storage unit. Then I thought: Hadrian, you should get a jump on this and get everything put away so you don’t have to worry about it anymore. So I called up Jan (my brother) and asked him to help me drop everything off. We have done this dozens of time. Dropping off and picking things up off, but today was different. Today was a day that will live in infamy and in the deepest recesses of my mind; terrorizing me in my dreams.

I actually made the first move. There were a bunch of frames stacked up against the wall. I wanted to move them, so I scooted them over. We were working organizing and putting things away. I wanted to keep all the xmas stuff in the back of the unit and the spring and fall stuff in the front, so I can get to them easier as the seasons come and change. But then I look down by my foot. And down by my foot under a frame is a wiggling tail. A tail so evil it could only belong to a wicked creature bent on destroying me. A creature with scales, teeth, and maybe no arms and legs. I peered around the frame and could only see a large serpentine head and eyes writhing around looking at me. That was it. I couldn’t take another look. I promptly screamed and fled the premises. It was after much soul searching and prayer that I finally summoned up enough courage to take another look… but I couldn’t. I had to ask Jan to take a look at it and possibly let it go if it wasn’t a crazy hell bent legless monster ready to pounce on us once it was freed.

Long story short it was a lizard. A rather large lizard. Larger than any I’ve seen outside of captivity. But it left us alone and we finished putting everything away. You can see the dramatics in the photos and video below.
